Fremont softball wins NCS championship

Fremont 8 Geyersville 7 - NCS Division 6 Championship

Fremont hosted Geyersville in the North Coast Section (NCS) Division 6 championship game yesterday afternoon as the the number one seed and Geyersville was seeded number two.

Geyersville had a quick start against Fremont building a 7-0 lead after the second inning. Going into the third inning, Fremont finally shut down Geyersville’s offense by not allowing another run for the rest of the game. The Eagles slowly mounted a comeback cutting Geyersville’s lead to 7-6 going into the seventh inning. Fremont then capped a remarkable comeback to score two runs to take home the NCS championship.

This win marks an impressive turnaround for the Fremont softball program. The team improved their record of 6-10 from last year to 20-3 this year along with winning the NCS championship.

Indianapolis Lutheran 15 Indiana 1 - IHSAA Sectional 58 Championship

Indiana had a rough start in their appearance at the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Sectional 58 championship against Indianapolis Lutheran. Indianapolis Lutheran started out hot scoring nine runs in the first inning to stake their claim for the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Sectional 58 championship. Indianapolis Lutheran's big inning was driven by a groundout by Elise Sombke, a groundout , a error, a single by Gabby Moore, a double by Sombke, and a single by Kimmie Kuehr.

Kuehr earned the win for Indianapolis Lutheran. She threw two innings, allowing zero runs, zero hits, striking out three, and walking zero. Two relievers helped Indianapolis Lutheran close out the victory. Baily Snow threw two innings. Isabella Paulone took the loss for Indiana School for the Deaf. She went four innings, giving up 15 runs, 11 hits, and striking out three.

Indianapolis Lutheran had 11 hits in the game while Indiana was held to two and also committed four errors.

Fremont scored two runs in the bottom of 7th inning to win the Bay Counties League championship.

Riverside had a rough end to the 2017 season at the CIF-SS Division 7 Play-In game against Bishop Conaty-Loretto.

Riverside surrendered 28 hits and committed 11 errors in a 36-3 loss. Alexandra Monge had two RBIs and a home run for Riverside.

Brenda Vargas took the loss with two strike outs and 10 walks.

Marie Philip Lady Ghosts softball team won Tuesday’s away conference game against Bradford Christian Academy by a score of 11-6. The team played well despite having only seven players.

Kayla LoBrutto was the winning pitcher and had two strike outs. Shayla Rochette was perfect at the plate going 5 for 5.

Cassidy Perry hit for a double and home run in two plate appearances with four RBIs to pace Maryland past Spencerville Academy in the first game of a doubleheader yesterday afternoon. Ashlynn Cohen had three RBIs and an infield home run. Freya Seremeth earned the win.

texasJohn Paul II 19 Texas 0 - TAPPS Division III Semifinals

Gabbie Kowalik drove in three runs when she homered for John Paul in the first inning to set the tone for the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Division III semifinals.

John Paul II added seven more runs in the second inning with a two home runs by Kayla Kowalik and Gabbie Kowalik. Madison Isley singled and Sarah Feider doubled to drive in additional runs.

Kowalik earned the win for John Paul II. She pitched five innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, striking out five, and walking one. Giuntoli took the loss for Texas. She tossed four innings, surrendering 19 runs, 13 hits, and striking out four.

Giuntoli went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Texas in hits.

John Paul II collected 13 hits. Gabby Kowalik went 3-for-3 at the plate as she led the team with five runs batted in.

John Paul II will defend their two straight state championships against Reicher this evening.

Texas wraps up a very successful season with a 13-13 record. Their record is deceiving as they started their season 2-9 competing against much bigger programs to prepare them for league play. Texas also dominated the Hoy tournament winning their second straight championship.
