Pennsylvania/Mill Neck Manor team up to win ESDAA Division 2 soccer championship

The St. Mary’s School for the Deaf hosted the Eastern Schools for the Deaf Athletic Association (ESDAA) Division 2 tournament last weekend with seven schools competing for the chance to be crowned the best team in 8 against 8 soccer.

Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf combined forces to create a single team and prevailed as the tournament champions despite facing obstacles such as developing team chemistry in a short period of time.

Pennsylvania/Mill Neck finished second in pool play by splitting a pair of games on Friday losing to Rochester and defeating Rhode Island. In the semifinals, Pennsylvania/Mill Neck were able to shut out the #1 seed of the other pool in St. Mary’s, 3-0 to advance to the championship game and avenge their pool play loss to Rochester the day before. The championship game was hotly contested with Pennsylvania/Mill Neck holding onto a slim 1-0 lead at the half. In the second half, Nasir Ford of Pennsylvania took over the game and pulled a hat trick to put the game away for a 4-0 victory and the ESDAA championship trophy.
