marylandMount Airy Christian 3 Maryland 1 - MIAC Semifinals

Maryland fell to Mount Airy Christian in the Maryland Independent Athletic Conference (MIAC) semifinals, 3-1 yesterday afternoon. Stefan Anderson struck out eight in six innings of work and allowed four hits. Brady Perry and John Werner each had two hits on three plate appearances. Eric Long was 1 of 3. Maryland ends the 2017 campaign with a 7-7-1 record which also includes a championship at the Hoy tournament.

Students with hearing loss visit PNC Park for some big-league practice

western-pennsylvaniaStudent athletes who are deaf or hard of hearing practiced like the pros at PNC Park on Friday during the 7th annual “It's Your Perfect Pitch” Baseball and Softball Clinic.

The clinic, which was founded by Kevin Giza, former president of the Allegheny Valley Baseball Club, is run in conjunction with the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and Pirates Charities to provide deaf athletes from all over Pennsylvania with instruction from professional and collegiate coaches.

Indiana took the lead late and defeated Indianapolis Shortridge 12-4 on Thursday when Jake Schwall laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run.

Indiana scored five runs in the sixth inning. Indiana's big inning was driven by a double by Joel Dramin, a single by Kolton Dickerson, and a single by Schwall.

Kyle Jenkins earned the win for Indiana. He tossed six innings, surrendering four runs, seven hits, and striking out ten.

Indiana collected 11 hits. Dickerson, Jaylen Jefferson, and Schwall each collected multiple hits for Indiana. Dickerson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Indiana in hits. Jenkins led the team with six stolen bases.

Fremont took an early lead in the first inning. With two outs in the first inning Spezio Harmount drove in one run when he singled.

Fremont scored 13 runs in the third inning. Fremont's big inning was driven by a error, a fielder's choice by Spezio Harmount, a triple by Luke Bella, a stolen base, a single by Bryan Alvarado-Salazar, a triple by Spezio Harmount, a single by Jax Pedersen, and a single.

Spezio Harmount earned the win for Fremont. He went two innings, allowing six runs, two hits, and striking out two. Jose Gastelum took the loss for Making Waves Academy . He threw two and two-thirds innings, surrendering 17 runs, six hits, and striking out three.

Gastelum led Making Waves Academy with two runs batted in. He went 0-for-1 on the day.

Luke Bella, Spezio Harmount, Bryan Alvarado-Salazar, and Jax Pedersen each collected multiple hits for Fremont. Luke Bella went 5-for-5 at the plate as he led the team with six runs batted in. Eric Long and Brody McAfee both hit 3 for 4 to power Maryland past Greater Grace Christian in the MIAC Quarterfinals. Long also had four RBIs and McAfee pitched six innings striking out five. John Werner was 2 for 3 with a RBI. Stefan Anderson earned a save pitching the final inning and striking out two.

Maryland will face Mount Airy Christian in the MIAC Semifinals this Thursday.

riversideUpland Christian 14 Riverside 1

Riverside watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 14-1 loss to Upland Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Currie earned the win for Upland Christian Academy. He went three innings, surrendering zero runs, one hit, and striking out four. Paul Hernandez-McIntosh took the loss for Riverside. He tossed two-thirds of an inning, surrendering seven runs, and five hits.

Elijah Andrade led Riverside with two hits in three at bats.

In the second, two base runners stole home, Spezio Harmount singled off of Ulises Mora, driving in two runs, Kobi Sittman singled off of Mora, driving in one run, and Luke Bella singled off of Jonathan Pizano, driving in two runs.

Sittman earned the win for Fremont. He threw six innings, giving up seven runs, eight hits, and striking out eight. Mora took the loss for Making Waves. He tossed one and two-thirds innings, surrendering ten runs, three hits, and striking out four.

Fremont had 15 hits in the game. Sittman, Bryan Alvarado-Salazar, Cameron Baer, and Bella each collected multiple hits for Fremont. Sittman went 4-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with six runs batted in. Fremont had seven players steal at least two bases with Bella leading the way with five.

Riverside out-hit La Sierra Academy six to five, but it wasn't enough in a 10-5 loss on Monday.

La Sierra Academy captured the lead in the first inning. With one out in the first inning Dalen James drove in two runs when he singled.

After La Sierra Academy scored one run in the top of the second, Riverside answered with one of their own. La Sierra Academy scored when Jared McKinstry grounded out, scoring one run. Riverside then answered when Elijah Andrade singled off of Jon Brunelle, driving in one run.

Riverside evened things up at four in the bottom of the third inning. Spencer Willey drove in two when he singled in the third inning.

La Sierra Academy took the lead for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Isaac Soli grounded out, scoring one run.

La Sierra Academy scored four runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for La Sierra Academy came thanks to a error and a double.

Brunelle earned the win for La Sierra Academy. He tossed seven innings, surrendering five runs, six hits, and striking out ten. Dylan Duarte took the loss for Riverside. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs, two hits, and striking out three.
