Beating the odds

2017 DeaflympicsJerlin Anika is just 13 and after many national and state level wins, she has now qualified for Deaflympics badminton event in Samsun, Turkey, in July.

Her father J Jeya Ratchagan says that they never treated her as a child with hearing and speech impairment. “This gave her enormous confidence to succeed.” He also credits Anika’s coach T Saravanan. “When I had doubts about her being able to play, he had the confidence in her.”
